20 seconds is all it takes to build confidence

I ask my clients to do a lot of things that make them feel uncomfortable.

Like:

  • Announce on social that they are now a coach/healer/therapist and are open for business 😱
  • Email their personal network and ask for referrals 😧
  • Reach out to those they admire in their niche, and give them some love 😨
  • Set up research calls with their ideal peeps 😟

And without exception, they find these to-do’s pretty tough to do.

Why dat?

Cos new ideas like these push us to the edge of our comfort zone; the place where procrastination, fear, and vulnerability like to hang out, shoot pool, knock back shots, and stare at strangers

The edge of your comfort zone ain’t a nice place to be, and there are only two routes out — as illustrated by my skillful scribble below.

Route 1.
Do a 180.
Step back from the edge of your comfort zone, don your flannelette PJs, sup your nice cup of malty drink, and settle in for familiar, safe.
Or
Route 2.
Thelma & Louise it.
Put your foot down, head straight past procrastination, overtake overwhelm, flick the v’s at vulnerability, and onwards into the COURAGE ZONE.

Now, obvs, route 2 is the option to choose if we want to boost our self-belief, our confidence and enjoy huge personal and biz growth

But, it sure ain’t easy.

For me, traveling out of my comfort zone is pretty much an everyday occurrence.
(Frankly even writing these weekly missives has me wrestling with my own mindfuckery)

This is why I feel so equipped to:
a) challenge my clients to frequently do things that scare the sheet out of them, and
b) share with you how I hack my fear brain and build my confidence

When I’m feeling the fear, I take 20 seconds and ponder these Qs.

1. Rachael, remind me what are you committed to?
(Easy! It’s more income, lovely clients, better connections, and bigger impact)

2. Cool, so who do you need to be in this moment to get these results?
(An action taker, an experimenter, and a ballsy biz owner)

3. Right, so where will you be in 12 months’ time if you don’t take action
(Urgh, back in a crappy 9–5 job, feeling wretched, regretful, and sad)

Pondering these three questions shuts up the mindfucks, and slams me right back into the reality of where I am now and where I want to be.

Then I close my eyes and post the post, write the email, make an offer, or state my prices.

Seriously folks, all it takes is 20 seconds.
20 secs to reflect on the Qs above, 20 secs to commit to your path, and 20 secs to exit your comfort zone.

20 secs!

Building your confidence muscle is an everyday habit.

Go flex!

P.S. — Loved this? This is only a tiny fraction of the kind of mind explosions, new thinking, and marketing magic that business owners like you get to experience every week when you sign up to the Tuesletter here x
